Obituary of Dr. Warren Hecht
Dr. Warren “Buddy” Hecht, 86, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Pottstown, PA, passed away on September 24, 2022. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, on May 31, 1936, Warren was the son of the late Leo and Ann (Williams) Hecht, and brother of the late Robert Hecht.
Warren attended Haverford College where he was the captain of the fencing team. He held an undefeated record as a saber fencer, which went unbroken for 26 years. After graduating from Haverford, he went on to medical school at University of Rochester, completed his residency at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and performed his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a captain in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Valley Forge Hospital. He used to joke that he was in the Army at Valley Forge. Warren practiced allergy in Pottstown, PA, for 35 years. “The magic doctor” would do magic tricks for his young patients to distract them during visits which often involved needles.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the cello, tennis, swimming, fishing, and tending to his large vegetable garden, from which he made his famous pickles.
Warren is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eta (Levin) Hecht; his children, Rena, Steven, and Dan Hecht; as well as 10 grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Hanawas Sachem Cemetery, 1177 N. State St., Pottstown, PA 19464.
