Elizabeth Huddy

Obituary of Elizabeth A. Huddy

Elizabeth “Betty” Alice (Fosnocht) Huddy, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Pottstown, PA, on February 14, 2022.  Raised in Birdsboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Havard and Florence (Rhodes) Fosnocht.

Betty was graduated from Birdsboro High School as the valedictorian in 1949.  A proud member of Phi Beta Kappa, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Dickinson College and a Master of Education from the University of Pennsylvania.

Upon her graduation from college, Betty began her teaching career at Pottstown High School in 1953.  For over thirty years as an English teacher, her love of language and literature was apparent.  She insured that her students were well read in literary classics, understood proper grammar, were drilled in vocabulary, and memorized the Alma Mater.  She was a drama coach, a class advisor, and author of the mantle ceremony that concludes each graduation.  But she was best known as the editorial advisor of the Troiad, leading students to publish exemplary yearbooks for fifteen years.

Outside of work, Betty was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, she collected a preposterous number of turtles, and she enjoyed spending many happy summers with family and friends on Long Beach Island, NJ.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, James (& Michelle) Huddy; her daughter and son-in-law, Beth (& Steve) Smith; and her grandchildren, Brielle Huddy, Brandon Huddy, Sarah (Smith) Stoiber, Alexandra Smith, and Elizabeth Smith.

In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her longtime partner, Charles E. Brown.

A Life Celebration will take place on Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Brookside Country Club, 850 N. Adams St., Pottstown, PA 19464.
