Obituary of Donald R. Lightcap Sr.

Donald Robert Lightcap Sr., 74, of Lower Pottsgrove Twp., PA, passed away on July 21, 2021, at Pottstown Hospital – Tower Health. He was the husband of Anna Marie (Gaugler) Lightcap, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in Pottstown, PA, on June 1, 1947, Donald was the son of the late George Wesley Lightcap and Hazel Catherine (Olinger) Lightcap.

Don worked as a custodian for Pottsgrove School District for 16 years, retiring in 2001, and previously worked for Pottstown Machine Company. In his twenties, Don spent lots of his time on roller skates. He worked for Ringing Rocks Roller Rink and also played as a goalie for the skating hockey team. He enjoyed playing bingo at Ringing Hill Fire Company, and testing his luck with the slot machines at the casino. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and active member of the Lower Pottsgrove Sportsmen’s Association. Don’s greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed. 

In addition to his wife, Don is lovingly remembered by his children, Veronica Lightcap, and her fiancé, Edward Stewart, Donald Lightcap Jr., and his wife, Teresa, and Kristy Birmingham, and her husband, Scott; his grandchildren, Mary Lightcap, Taylor (& Andrew) Crerand, Jessica (& Kelly) McDonald, Daniel Birmingham, Hannah Lightcap, and Leah Lightcap; his three great-grandchildren; his siblings, Ronald (& Rita) Lightcap, Janet (& Kenneth) Friedel, and Vernest “Bud” (& Kimberly) Lightcap; his sister-in-law, Diane Lightcap; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Don is predeceased by his brother, George Lightcap.

A viewing will take place on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A Life Celebration will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will take place after the service at Limerick Garden of Memories.
