Obituary of James Alan Rittenhouse Sr.
James Alan Rittenhouse Sr., 76, passed away on November 16, 2020, at his home in Lansdale, PA. He was the husband of the late Nancy Jane (Fulmer) Rittenhouse, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Audubon, PA, on February 4, 1944, James was the son of the late George W. Rittenhouse III and Ruth (Bright) Rittenhouse Schroeder.
Jim was raised at his family’s farm in Audubon, PA, where he delivered coal with his father. After his time in school, he worked a variety of jobs until he found a home at United Parcel Service. After enjoying his 31-year career with UPS, he retired in 2000. In 1999, Jim was proud to receive an award for “30 years of safe driving.”
Jim was a longtime and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Port Kennedy in King of Prussia, PA, where his family has a long and extended history. He continued his family’s history by serving as an ordained elder, chair of the worship committee, and a primary supporter of the Women’s Auxiliary, where his wife, Nancy, served as President.
Jim joined the Lower Providence Township Volunteer Fire Company in 1962. He held many positions throughout his time there including fire fighter, fire captain, trustee, and lieutenant in the fire police. Jim received several diplomas for arson detective, but was most proud of the award he received in 1985 as a lifetime member.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, James Rittenhouse Jr., Janice Dalton, Jeffrey Rittenhouse, Jessica Yanis, W. James Hoff, Glen Hoff, Dona Hoff, Timothy Hoff, Lori Hoff, and Michael Hoff; his brother, Richard Rittenhouse; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Grace Rittenhouse.
A graveside service will take place on November 21, 2020, at 11:45 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Port Kennedy, 1084 Old Forge Ln., King of Prussia, PA 19406.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ memory to First Presbyterian Church of Port Kennedy.
