Obituary of Kenneth Lee Quinter
Kenneth Lee Quinter, 76, of Lower Pottsgrove Twp., passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Phoenixville Hospital. He was the husband of Linda S. (Claycomb) Quinter, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Pottstown, on November 3, 1943, Kenneth was the son of the late Milford and Marion (Moyer) Quinter.
Ken was a 1962 graduate of Pottstown High School where he displayed his athletic skills as a running back for the 1961 football team; furthermore, Ken helped take his team through an undefeated season. He then furthered his education by attending and playing football at Colorado State University, Trinidad State Junior College, and Oklahoma Panhandle State University, where in 1968 he received his final degree: a Bachelor of Science in physical education. Although his favorite football teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins, he was happy to root for any team playing against the Eagles!
In college at Panhandle State, he was a member of ROTC and was commissioned a second lieutenant at graduation in 1968. He had additional training at Ft. Gordon, GA; Ft. Sill, OK; and Ft. Riley, KS. Serving in Viet Nam 1969-1970, Ken was a first lieutenant Signal Corp officer in the “Parrot’s Beak” and in the province of Cu Chi. He left the army as a captain and then served four years in the Army Reserve.
After leaving the Army, Ken returned to Pottstown where he was employed by Boyertown School District, Bechtel Power Company, and Occidental Chemical Company where he retired in 2005.
Ken was a member of VFW Post 384 of New Albany, National Rifle Association, Shamrock Boys Club of Pottstown, Pottstown Bow & Gun Lodge, and Frontier Archery Club.
He was passionate about archery hunting, planting food plots on his John Deere Tractor, and listening to Malt Shop Oldies. All of these interests were special to Ken, but his greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family and friends who will miss him deeply.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Travis Lee Quinter, husband of Rachelle Lynn (Novidor), Allentown; and Todd Lyle Quinter, husband of Dr. Jessica Lynn (Yutzey), Petersburg; his grandson, Greyson Lee Quinter, Allentown; his sister-in-law, Sandra Hedrick, Perryton, TX; his sister, Amelia Chalifoux, Gilbertsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister, Arlene Levengood; and his brothers, Linwood Quinter, Milford Quinter, and Thomas Quinter.
