Obituary of Gerald F. Rittenbaugh Sr.
Gerald F. Rittenbaugh Sr., 86, passed away on June 22, 2020, at his home in Douglassville, PA. He was the husband of Jeanette (Smith) Rittenbaugh, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Born in Phoenixville, PA, on March 15, 1934, Gerald was the son of the late Clarence L. Rittenbaugh Sr. and Lillian (Raby) Rittenbaugh.
Gerald was a “jack of all trades” and worked for many companies over the years. He was employed by the Phoenixville Foundry, snowplowed for the state for 47 years, and owned his own inspection garage, Rittenbaugh Garage. He also enjoyed taking over his father’s legacy of racing stock cars at Sanatoga Speedway.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Karen S. Lafferty, wife of Walter; his grandchildren, Katie S. Rittenbaugh, Dylan J.W. Lafferty (Lacey Meredith), and Jordyn L. Lafferty; his great-grandchildren, Joshua C. Dimeler and Jason L. Dimeler; his sisters, Lenora Thorton, wife of the late G. Frank, and Marian Menkins, wife of W. John; and his former daughter-in-law, Helen Kohl.
He is predeceased by his son, Gerald F. Rittenbaugh Jr.; his granddaughter, Rebecca Jo Rittenbaugh; his sister, Mary Ann Smith; and his brother, Clarence L. Rittenbaugh Jr.
A viewing will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A Life Celebration will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place after the service at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Please note, masks and social distancing will be required at the viewing and funeral service.
