Joseph Spievak

Obituary of Joseph William Spievak

Joseph William Spievak, 83, had his homecoming on February 22, 2020, due to complications from an unexpected illness in January. He was the husband of the late June (McClister) Spievak, whom he married in 1955 and had three cherished daughters with. He was born March 13, 1936, in Perth Amboy, NJ, to the late Joseph Louis Spievak and Elizabeth (Pelley) Spievak. Joe was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, class of 1954. He and his brother Robert formed the rock and roll band The Viscounts. They played in many venues around New Jersey and New York and had a few appearances on American Bandstand. Their hit song Harlem Nocturne made the billboard chart top 40 and was used in the classic movie “Christine.” Joe was a Navy veteran and served in the reserves for eight years. He later worked for DuPont in Edison, NJ. In 1972, Joe made a bold move, and brought his family out to Colorado to begin a new life in the West. He became a journeyman Ironworker and loved working outdoors with his hands helping to create monumental projects. The family eventually settled in Wheatland Wyoming’s wide open spaces where Joe pursued his passions of hunting, target shooting and gun collecting. He also loved vintage cars, and continued playing bass and steel guitar occasionally. Joe was known by his family to have an exceptional memory passed down from his own father. He was quite the historian and loved to talk history with anyone who would listen. He was especially passionate about American History and the United States constitution. Joe also loved to share about his family history, especially his strong Polish heritage. He amazed everyone with his sharp mental records of his own ancestry. Joe retired in Pottstown, PA, where he lived until his death. He is survived by his longtime committed partner, Linda Bitler; his daughters, Sherry Langan (George), Dawn Johnson (Monte), and Jodi Marker (Jim); his grandchildren, Tanya Garcia (Juan), Timothy “Bear” Johnson (Jenni), Ryan Langan (Jewel), Jessie Rae Davidson (Braedon), Jerry Johnson (Michelle), Sean Langan, Cohner Marker (Kayla); and Jordan Marker; his great-grandchildren, Mahkii Langan, Victoria Langan, Caleb Johnson, Adin Johnson, Clara Johnson, Oliver Johnson, Kelby Johnson, Juaquin Garcia, Noé Wylder Garcia, Ezekiel Davidson, and Ayla Rae Davidson, his brother, Robert Spievak (Judy); and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends. Interment and a celebration of life is to be held at a later date in Wyoming. If anyone so desires, memorial contributions may be made at constitutioncenter.org. Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464, will be handling the arrangements.
