Obituary of Ellen Rose Baker

Ellen Rose (Frattarole) Baker, 90, of Pottstown, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at ManorCare Health Services in Pottstown, PA. She was the loving widow of Lew Baker.


Born in Johnstown, PA, Ellen was the devoted daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Rubis) Frattarole.


Ellen is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Rose (Baker) Douglas, wife of Scot; her sisters, Dorothy L. Costlow; and Joyce A. Turgeon, wife of Richard; her brother, Frank D. Frattarole, husband of Rachel; her daughter-in-law, Emily Baker; grandchildren, Aaron Baker, Victoria Douglas, and Stephanie (Baker) Renfro; and great-grandchildren, Pierce and Alexandra Renfro. She is also survived by eleven special nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.


She is predeceased by her son, Anthony Wayne Baker; and her brother, Robert W. Frattarole.


Ellen, a native of Johnstown, PA, spent time in Washington, D.C. and Texas and lived in Westbury, NY, before moving to Pottstown, PA.  She was employed by the General Service Administration in D.C. and served as an administrative assistant at Jefferson Chemical Affiliate in NYC as well as for the New York State Public School System.  She was active in many organizations and received special recognition for her work with Literacy Volunteers of America.


Ellen played the oboe, won a beauty award and was a prolific painter who exhibited her work.  She loved to dance and garden. Ellen was a determined person who had a zest for life and a great sense of humor.  She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.


Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A Life Celebration will follow at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY.
