Obituary of Lorraine "Laurie" Borger
Lorraine “Laurie” Malkin Borger, passed away March 27, 2019, at age 72. Lorraine is survived by her husband of 51 years, Philip “Flip”, daughter Hope Palmero, son Michael (Nanae), son Joshua (Anh), 4 granddaughters, Heather, Lainey, Adeline and Amelia, and sister Deanna Goldstein.
Raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Lorraine was involved with horses from a young age; a love that continued through her life. Though she stopped riding several years ago, Lorraine never lost her love for the equestrian sport or contact with the friends she made through it.
Lorraine’s marriage to Philip brought her to Pottstown. As they raised a family, Lorraine’s time was filled with a variety of activities in support of her children’s enrollment in the Pottsgrove School District and her immediate and extended families’ contribution to the Pottstown Jewish community. Bringing Art Goes to School to the Pottsgrove Elementary Schools was particularly gratifying for Lorraine as was her involvement with numerous activities at Congregation Hesed Shel Emet. Those activities included being an active member of the Jewish Women’s League and acting as the Jewish community’s delegate to the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities for many years.
Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. Shiva will be observed at the Borger home, 1430 Lynn Drive in Pottstown, Sunday through Thursday at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to Congregation Hesed Shel Emet, PO Box 272, Pottstown, PA 19464 or a charity of your choice.
