Obituary of Mary Jean Salzer

Mrs. Mary Jean (Gibson) Salzer, 92, longtime resident and community supporter of West Pottsgrove, PA, passed away on Thursday morning, May 17, 2018. She was holding the hands of her daughter and granddaughter and surrounded by love. She was happily married to Ernest T. Salzer, Veteran 457 Army Air Force pilot and WWII Veteran for 41 years until his passing in 1991.


Born in Camden, NJ on March 17, 1926, Mary Jean was a daughter of the late John Paul Gibson and Mary Lydia (Moore) Gibson. She was the sister of Ruth (Gibson) Hannum and Nancy Lucille (Gibson) Hughes, who have preceded her in passing and she joins now in Heaven.


She graduated from Temple University with a master’s degree in biology. She was strongly involved and loved by her community and spent many years traveling the world with good friends.


Mary Jean is survived by her two daughters, Mary L. Salzer and Patricia A. Williams, wife of David Williams; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Young, wife of Kenneth Young, and Rachel Williams, wife of Eric Klodt. She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Rose Elizabeth Young, who will always remain her favorite.


Mary Jean will be missed for her sense of humor, quick wit, intelligence and so much more. She touched many hearts throughout her lifetime.


A viewing will take place on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 7 Saint Andrew’s Ln., Glenmoore, PA 19343. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
