Obituary of Dolores McDevitt
Dolores (Sulzbach) McDevitt, 86, of King of Prussia, PA passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Spring Mill Senior Living in Phoenixville, PA. She was the wife of the late James “Duke” J. McDevitt with whom she shared 26 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on May 19, 1931, Dolores was the daughter of the late Frank and Kathryn (Desmond) Sulzbach.
An exceptional student from elementary school through high school, she was awarded a full scholarship to Chestnut Hill College graduating in 1952. After graduation, she was employed by McNeil Laboratories as a chemist. She married in 1954, and while raising six children, she began teaching High School Chemistry and Physics. After a teaching career at Mt. Saint Joseph’s Academy, she entered the emerging software industry as a computer programmer in 1981. At the age of 74, she retired from her position as SVP of R&D from the global software company XRT/Cerg.
Throughout her life she remained an insatiable reader. A woman of high intellect capable of running the board most nights ‘Jeopardy’ aired, a show she enjoyed late into her life. While her career demanded much of her time, she was a capable seamstress, over the years crafting various garments from scratch. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren.
She is survived by five children, Cathy Nesbihal, wife of Mark, Bristol, PA; Stephen McDevitt, husband of Barbara, Whitehall, PA; Suzanne Brown, wife of Donald, Royersford, PA; Dolores Bievenour, wife of Timothy, Lancaster, PA; and Christopher McDevitt, husband of Dianne, Jeffersonville, PA; one brother, Frank Sulzbach, Dallas, TX; ten grandchildren, Jimmy, Dennis, and Allyson McDevitt, Ace and Josh Pagano, Meghan and Emily McDevitt, Royce and Ethan Brown, and Drew Bievenour, and one great-grandchild, Alyssa Pagano.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by one son, James McDevitt.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 9:30 -11 am at Saint Teresa of Calcutta, 256 Swamp Pike Schwenksville, PA 19473. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 am. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte Street Pottstown, PA 19464 will be handling the arrangements.
