Dorothy J. Miller

On Sunday, January 17, 2021, Dorothy J. Miller, 87, a resident for the past seven years of Keystone Villa, Douglasville, Pennsylvania, departed peacefully from this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus, and her late husband, William “Bill” R. Miller.

Dorothy was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Kathryn and Edward Curry. She was predeceased by her beloved sister Mary Ann Curry (Batdorf). Dorothy, after graduating from Pottstown High School in 1951, attended the Chester County School of Nursing where in 1954, as the Vice President of her class, she graduated as a Registered Nurse. Dorothy was employed by the former Memorial Hospital in Pottstown and the Pennhurst State Hospital, Spring City, PA as well as various area doctors’ offices and medical practices. Dorothy always wore her white nursing cap with pride and distinction. Her nursing school lapel pin, which she also wore, was a “badge of honor” for her.

She enjoyed traveling whenever possible; especially camping throughout the Northeast United States from south to Virginia to the northern parts of Maine and beyond to Nova Scotia. Many a summer weekend were spent camping in Drums, PA. When she wasn’t camping she enjoyed socializing with her friends and family; always ready for a card game of Canasta. Dorothy always enjoyed spending time with her husband; whether it be going out for a nice dinner or enjoying the local night spots in southeastern Pennsylvania, or other local venues such as the Valley Forge Music Fair or the former Latin Casino night club in New Jersey. A frequent traveler to the state of Florida, she also enjoyed cruising whenever possible.

Dorothy continued her nursing career; even after she relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida where she and her husband lived for approximately 31 years. Returning to Pottstown, Pennsylvania in 2011 Dorothy enjoyed her retirement years by spending time with her family. An avid walker, Dorothy was frequently seen out getting her exercise before returning home to sit down to read her favorite James Patterson novel. Better known to her friends and family simply as “Dotty”. Petite in stature, slender in build, “Dotty” was often a “force to be reckoned with” and would never shy away from letting you know what was on her mind. At the same time, she was always there whenever someone needed her; never complaining and always willing to help.

Dorothy is survived by her son David A. Miller (Connie), of Royersford, Pennsylvania, two stepdaughters Christine Stabile, and Jane (Eric) Hutchens; both of California, five grandchildren, Erik, Krista, Kelly, Robert and Kim, and great-grandchildren Hannah, Emily, Waylon, Dazmine, James, Luke, Matthew, and John as well as Batdorf nephews, James, Mark, Andrew and Jonathan, and also Miller nephews Kenneth, Jack, Howard, Woody and Todd.

Dorothy was baptized and went on to be a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in her loving memory to First Baptist Church, 301 King St., Pottstown, PA 19464.

A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 22, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464. Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Church Cemetery, Amityville, Pennsylvania.
