Obituary of Doris Miller

Doris A. (Knause) Miller, 86, of Pottstown, PA, passed away on February 5, 2017 at her home. She was the wife of the late Jacob W. Miller with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

Doris was born March 29, 1930 in Pottstown, PA. She was the daughter of the late James Wayne Knause and Stella (Davidheiser) Knause.

Doris was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 65 years, playing piano for them for over 27 years. She was a past Royal Matron of the Order of Amaranth and held many different offices in both Pottstown and Reading Courts. She also provided music for the Order of Beauceant in Elizabethtown. Doris enjoyed a 52-year membership in the Garden Club where she served as president. She took part in the Ladies Auxiliary of Nativity Commandery #71 where she also served as president.

Doris was a member, choir director, and Director of Christian Education at St. James Lutheran Church before joining Zion’s United Church of Christ. As a member at Zion’s, Doris often accompanied the choir, played in the bell choir, and participated in Zion’s Women’s Fellowship. She also was a member of the Prayer Shawl Committee. Once a month, Doris assisted with community meals for the Pottstown Cluster. She loved spending time with her family, especially at their home in Ocean City, New Jersey

One Daughter: Deborah Bentley, wife of Frederick, of Lancaster, PA

One Son: James Miller, husband of Joan, of Pottstown, PA

Seven Grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, Katie, Peter, Heather, Rebecca, wife of Michael Podolsky, and Brian

Four Great-Grandchildren: Austin, Derek, Chloe, and Natalie

A Calling Hour will take place from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Zion’s United Church of Christ, 209 Chestnut Street, Pottstown, PA 19464. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:30 pm. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’ honor to Zion’s United Church of Christ or to the Amaranth Diabetes Charity with a check written to “Grand Court of PA, O of A” with “ADF Charity Project” on the memo line and mailed to HL Patricia M.
